Does my hybrid need special oil?
The required viscosity and performance specifications come from the vehicle manufacturer. “Hybrid” on a bottle is not a substitute for checking them. AMSOIL offers a Hybrid Motor Oil family intended for hybrid operating conditions; verify the specific grade and application before choosing it.

Do short trips matter?
AMSOIL explains that intermittent engine operation can leave oil cooler, allowing moisture and fuel contamination to persist. Its hybrid formulation addresses these operating demands. Tell your service adviser about repeated short trips, cold weather, and long periods when the gasoline engine runs infrequently.
Should I follow miles or time?
Use the applicable vehicle schedule, including its calendar limit and maintenance-monitor instructions. Low mileage does not by itself justify postponing service. Review AMSOIL’s current product service conditions with your vehicle requirements before considering a different interval.
The 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid maintenance guide identifies additional oil service for certain operating conditions, including repeated trips shorter than five miles below freezing. That example is specific to the listed vehicle and conditions; check the guide for your own year and model.

Look beyond the engine oil.
Review the model’s brake, tire, coolant, filter, and battery-cooling-intake maintenance. Engine coolant and inverter coolant can have separate requirements. Leave high-voltage components to qualified technicians.
